Last Night we went down the Old Blue Last in Shoreditch to catch norwegian underground pop outfit, Kaia. Their songs were a collection of gloomy but still frisky, psychedelic dream pop, combining mellow synth breaks and airy vocal harmonies with some faster, more spirited choruses. The overall atmosphere was a sombre one with everyone fixated on some area of blank space, there wasn’t much to watch onstage but that was exactly what you wanted from them, music that kind of pushed you into a daydream.
Listening through their tumblr page some of their mixes are reminiscent of the lo-fi and wavy guitar pop coming out of Brooklyn at the moment, think Mac Demarco and Alex Calder. However Kaia meets somewhere in between them and Indie synth pop groups like Egyptian Hip-Hop and The Naked & Famous. You can expect some pretty powerful female vocals that range from solemn and delicate to bright and orchestral.
Support band Wyldest are also very worth checking out
